Recital Line-ups are posted!

The recital line-ups are posted. We will hold a Senior Show on Friday, May 4th and three shows on Saturday, May 5th. Please check the line-ups to see which show(s) you’re in. Also check to make sure your name is listed in all appropriate routines as well as for spelling errors. Please notify the office of any corrections.

Open Curtain

We will continue to hold Open Curtain Weeks for February and March. For April the curtains will remain closed. Below is the remaining Open Curtain schedule:

Awards

If you have been training with Jaci Smith for 5 or 10 years consecutively we would like to honor you for your dedication. Please notify the office if you feel this applies to you! Also, if you are a MDC Company member and this is your 5th year to compete we would like to honor you as well.

Costumes will be coming home soon!

Costumes will be passed out this month. Along with your costumes you will find a recital guide book and tights (if you ordered them with us). First, make sure your costume fits. If it’s too big, you can alter it. If it’s too small, call the office immediately. Second, read your recital guide book thoroughly for important information about rehearsals and recital.

Please don’t miss any classes—we want to continue polishing our routines for our last 2 competitions as well as work on technique and skills to ready the girls for May auditions.

I have a Youth Large jacket left at Dupree (with NO name). It can be picked up in the office.

Company Auditions

2012-2012 Company auditions will be held May 9th-10th. Sign-up sheet is in the office. Dancers will audition in tap, ballet, and jazz. Results will be posted Friday, May 11th.

You will receive audition information (available Feb 20th) that will include what skills you’ll be asked to perform and other things we’re looking for.
A new requirement for company members for next year will be to complete a 10 hour intensive.
Our choreography workshop is tentatively planned for August 17-20th.

Stage One Productions

Our next competition will be held March 2-4th at the Stafford Center. As soon as we get the schedule we’ll pass it along to you.

* Dress Rehearsal is Sunday, January 22nd. See November Co News for times and line-up. Arrive with hair and make-up complete.

* All company members should now have the required Capezio blue leotard for ballet class. Remember to wear pink tights and wear your hair in a ponytail.

* One more hair lesson will be held Tuesday, January 17th from 7:30-8:30.

* Dancers performing hip-hop and/or lyrical routines should bring their tennis shoes and foot undeez to class to practice in. Please label all belongings!

* Diamond Co girls—we want to re-use the “What’s a girl gotta do” costumes from last year for recital. We know Lexi, Jordan, Rachel S., and Sydney need one. Does everyone else still have theirs and the gloves?

* DUPREE—Our first convention/competition is Dupree Dance and will be held February 4-5th. The event will be held at the Hyatt Regency Houston, 1200 Louisiana Street, Houston, TX 77002. 1-888-421-1442. You will need to meet us in the lobby of the hotel at 7:30 am Saturday morning. At that time you will check in with your assigned team leader (TBD) and receive your wristband. Parents—at this time you will need to notify us if you plan to stay and watch classes or if you plan to drop off and pick up later. Parents are welcome to stay and watch the classes at no charge. All students need to bring a sack lunch. Classes will begin at 8:00 am and finish at 2:00 pm. At the end of classes parents need to pick up their children from the dance ballrooms. Dancers will have 1 hour to get ready for the competition. There will be an assigned dressing room that the girls can use to dress or you can choose to rent a hotel room. The dancers should be ready and check in with their leaders at 2:45 pm in the dressing room. Then the parents are free to go get a good seat. The doors to the competition will open at 2:45 pm (in case you want someone to wait in line for you). After your dancer’s last performance please pick them up in the dressing room. At that time the team leader will be free of their duties. You are free to leave or wait for the awards. The awards ceremony will be held at the end of the competition. We will know the length and show order of the competition closer to the event.

On Sunday, you will need to again check in with your team leader at 7:45 am in the lobby and bring a sack lunch. At the finish of classes on Sunday the faculty will perform a short show and hold a scholarship ceremony. The dancers will be sitting with their leaders in the ballroom where you can meet them and pick them up. The faculty show and scholarship ceremony will start at 2 pm and end around 3 pm.

Line-ups are posted. Dancers will be divided into 2 days of shows. One show will be held Friday, May 4th. The other shows will be held Saturday, May 5th. Some company members will be required to attend both days.
We will hold dress rehearsals at HBU on April 16th & 18th. Your show assignment will determine which rehearsal you attend.
Pictures will be taken at the studio April 2nd-6th. There will be no classes these days.

Adult Dance Aerobics

Join us on Friday mornings from 8:30-9:30 am for some great exercise to fun music! No registration necessary. Just show up. $15/class.

MDC Company

Our company teams have been working hard all year preparing for our upcoming competition season. Our first competition, Dupree, will be held Saturday, February 4th at the Hyatt Regency Houston Hotel. Admission is free! Specific times will be available in the office soon. This is a great opportunity for you to see what company is all about.

Notify the office between now and Spring Break if you are planning on auditioning for our 2012-2013 Company Teams. Auditions will be held in May, but you must first sign up!

Dupree Dance Expo Feb 4 & 5

We will be attending Dupree Dance Expo convention and competition February 4^th & 5^th. The event will be held at the Hyatt Regency Houston located at 1200 Louisiana Street, Houston, TX 77002.
The classes will begin Saturday morning, with the competition beginning around 3:00 pm that same day. Classes will resume again on Sunday morning at 8:00 am and end around 2:00 pm. If you’re interested in staying at the hotel mention the Dupree event and you will receive a discount. A more detailed schedule of the daily events will be available in January. Fees are listed on the November Company Newsletter and are due December 16^th.

Most costumes have been sent home. The back ordered costumes should all arrive before the Christmas break. Our dress rehearsal will be held Sunday, January 22^nd. Times and line-ups are listed in the November Company News available on our website.

We have ordered the blue leotards that we’re requesting you wear for ballet class beginning in January. As soon as we receive them I’ll send you an email that we have them. Thank you for your patience!

Pearl,Coral, Amethyst, Sapphire, and Diamond Companies—Please start bringing your hip-hop tennis shoes to class. We need to start practicing dancing in them. Don’t forget to put your name in
them…and don’t lose them! You might need a bigger dance bag to hold all of your shoes.

Amethyst and Diamond Companies—Please turn in your paperwork for the RAD exams ASAP to the office. Also, if you received a new black skirt for ballet, a fee of $45.67 is due January 3^rd.

Attendance is very important. Please try your best to be at all classes between now and our first competition. We only have 6 more weeks of classes before dress rehearsal!

Please arrive to class with your hair in a ponytail. Be sure to secure any loose hair around your face.

Jaci will be at the studio the following days and times giving “Company Hairdo” lessons. Bring your child, a brush, ponytail holders, and bobby pins.

All company members:

* Classes as usual on Monday, Oct 31st (just before costume week begins).

* You do NOT need to come to Costume Week unless you are taking hip-hop, pointe, or any other extra class outside of your required company classes.

* Costume fees are due Nov 4th. Costumes will go home beginning Nov 7th. You must try them on and be sure fit is good immediately. Report any issues to us asap!

Ruby & Opal Companies

We are holding FREE tap and turns technique classes for you on Saturday, November 12th from 8:30-10:00 am. We hope you’ll take advantage of these classes!

Beginning January we want all company members to wear the same leotard to ballet class. The required leotard is made by Capezio and is a princess camisole leotard in royal blue. We sell them in the office for your convenience (26.99 plus tax) or you can buy one at Dance Trends.

We will be attending Dupree Dance Expo on February 4th & 5th. Additional information to come. Total fees to attend the workshop (phase 2 classes) and the competition (3 dances) are $211. Fees for Dupree will be due Friday, December 16th.

Recital Fees Due This Month

The recital fee is $70 on or before October 14th and $75 after October 14th. Recital fees are non-refundable. The recital will be held at HBU on Friday, May 4th and Saturday, May 5th. Our rehearsal dates will be April 16th & 18th at Houston Baptist University.

Costumania Week

Starting October 24th, you can wear your past recital costumes to class. It’s always fun to see yourself sparkle and shine! Remember this is the only time you will be allowed to do this. After October 31st, it’s back to leotards and tights. If you don’t have a dance costume, you can wear any other costume as long as you can move in it. Please don’t scare us with any masks! Prizes will be given for best costumes!

It’s Costume Time!

Tuesday, November 1st through Friday, November 4th have been designated Costume Days. No classes will be held on these days. Instead you and your dancer will come to the studio on the day and time listed below according to the first letter of your dancer’s last name. At that time your dancer will be measured, costume size selected, costume viewed and payment made. You will only be required to pay 1/2 down with the balance due in January. You will still be able to receive the discounted rate on December and January tuition, as long as your account balance is zero (costume balance excluded).
