Congratulations to all of the girls who made our 2012-2013 Company teams. Please read the following information carefully so that you don’t miss anything!

1. Please email us today (Friday, May 11th) at jaci@memorialdance.com and let us know if you accept or decline your placement in Company.

2. All Company members must read, sign, and return the Company contract to us along with the $250 deposit by Monday, May 14th. Our office will be open from 1 pm to 8 pm. You can print the contract from our website (3 pages).

3. All Company members need to be sized for a RAD skirt, unless you already have one from this past year.

4. All Company members are to take 10 hours of intensive summer dance classes. We are offering 2 different weeks for you to get these hours in. The first week is May 14-18 and the second week is June 4-8. Please indicate on your contract which week(s) you’re coming. You’re more than welcome to take both! Each Company is assigned a a certain level for these intensives. Cost is $100/per week. See schedule below:

May 14-18 Summer Company Intensive

Levels 1, 2, & 3 dance from 4-6 pm

Levels 4, 5, & 6 dance from 6-8 pm

June 4-8 Summer Company Intensive

Levels 1, 2, & 3 dance from 1-3 pm

Levels 4, 5, & 6 dance from3-5 pm

5. Ms. Carla would like to also offer RAD ballet classes for Company members 5th grade and older. Classes have not been officially set, but with enough interest we’d like to offer the following:

June 11-15 from 1-3 pm and July 23-27 from 1-3 pm–Open to Coral, Amethyst, Emerald, & Sapphire Companies

June 11-15 from 3-5 pm and July 23-27 from 3-5 pm–Open to Diamond Company

Costs for these RAD classes is $200/per week. We encourage Company members to take these classes rather than the summer camp classes offered during the same days.

6. Our Company Workshop will be held August 16th-19th. Exact dance days,times, and fees for each group will be determined soon. Please keep these dates open on your calendar!

7. We ask all Company members to let their hair grow out over the summer. Company hairstyles usually involve no bangs and long hair.

8. There is a great suitcase for dancers called the Dream Duffel. It is a bag customized for dancers with several costumes. This in not mandatory item that you need, but wanted to mention it in case you’re interested! Visit www.dreamduffel.com to shop.

Dress Rehearsals at HBU

Company members will not participate in the dress rehearsals at HBU on April 16 & 18. The only reasons you would need to attend is if you are taking a class outside of company such as hip-hop or pointe.

Recital

Hair is to be worn the same for recital as for competition
I hope to have a dressing room backstage for all company teams (instead of the dressing room in the next building). I will know more after dress rehearsal and let you know!
I am hoping that some Diamond Co dancers can help us with the little ones on Saturday. If you’re interested in helping notify the office.
The Diamond Co is dancing with the teachers in all shows. Please see added routines in line-up!

RAD Demonstrations & Summer classes

Monday, April 23 we invite all parents to come and watch either the Amethyst ballet class from 4:45-6 pm and/or the Diamond ballet class from 7-8:30 pm to see what RAD is all about.

Please let us know if you’re interested in taking any summer RAD classes! These classes will be offered to company dancers going into the 5th grade and higher. We have studio space available June 11-15 and July 23-27.

Congrats to all of the girls who took the RAD exam! We are very proud of you!

Company Group Photo Schedule

We originally planned to hold group pictures on April 6th, but that is Good Friday and we will be closed. Below is our revised group photo schedule. Bring all of your costumes & dance shoes! Moms need to stay and help with the dressing. Full hair and light make-up is to be worn. We apologize for the late hours, but it is the only time we have. We will hurry and get you home asap! No individual pictures will be taken at this time…groups only. You will have the option to purchase these if you wish. We will use them for our recital program to recognize the company teams.

Dupree Summer Intensive

Autumn and Jaci will be attending the Dupree Summer Intensive in Chicago from July 20-22. We will not be chaperoning any students, but would love for our company dancers to attend. We will attend the workshop only (not the competition). You will need to arrive Thursday, July 19th as the event begins at 8:00 am Friday morning and will be over Sunday afternoon, which allows you to fly home that day if you wish. We’d like to put together a group dinner date for one night while we’re there for everyone. Let us know if you’re interested!

It will held at the Oak Brook Marriott Hotel. If you go to the Dupree website at www.dupreedance.com you can click on the hotel and go directly to reservations and get the discounted Dupree rate.

RAD information

Our exams for RAD will be held on Wednesday, March 28th. The date has changed since we are trying to work around the STAAR school testing. Please see schedule below. Slight time changes may still be made. We’ll notify you asap. We realize this cuts into some of your regular dance time…just bring your entire dance bag and be ready to jump into class after your testing.

We can schedule one or two camps, depending on the interest. Please let us know immediately if you’re interested and which week(s) you would be able to attend.

You must check these to find out which show(s) you’re in, if you have adequate time for costume changes, and to make sure your name is spelled correctly and listed in all the appropriate dances. Please be sure to read your Recital Guide that will go home with your costumes. It contains important information regarding the recital.

Pictures will be taken at the studio Monday, April 2nd through Thursday, April 5th. Please refer to the schedule as to when you are assigned to attend. Even if you do not buy pictures you are required to come in for a costume check. We will not have classes these days. Payment for pictures is due at the time of the sitting (cash or check only).

Recital Hair Assignments

All tap, ballet, & jazz class dancers are to wear their hair parted down the left side (over the left eyebrow), and pulled into a low bun (behind the right ear).

All hip-hop class dancers are to wear their hair parted down the left side (over the left eyebrow), and pulled into a low ponytail (behind the right ear).

All company members are to wear their hair as they do for competition.

A $30 registration fee and August tuition is due when you pre-register. Fall classes will begin August 20th.

The recital line-ups are posted. We will hold a Senior Show on Friday, May 4th and three shows on Saturday, May 5th. Please check the line-ups to see which show(s) you’re in. Also check to make sure your name is listed in all appropriate routines as well as for spelling errors. Please notify the office of any corrections.

If you have been training with Jaci Smith for 5 or 10 years consecutively we would like to honor you for your dedication. Please notify the office if you feel this applies to you! Also, if you are a MDC Company member and this is your 5th year to compete we would like to honor you as well.

Costumes will be coming home soon!

Costumes will be passed out this month. Along with your costumes you will find a recital guide book and tights (if you ordered them with us). First, make sure your costume fits. If it’s too big, you can alter it. If it’s too small, call the office immediately. Second, read your recital guide book thoroughly for important information about rehearsals and recital.

You will receive audition information (available Feb 20th) that will include what skills you’ll be asked to perform and other things we’re looking for.
A new requirement for company members for next year will be to complete a 10 hour intensive.
Our choreography workshop is tentatively planned for August 17-20th.

Stage One Productions

Our next competition will be held March 2-4th at the Stafford Center. As soon as we get the schedule we’ll pass it along to you.

* Dress Rehearsal is Sunday, January 22nd. See November Co News for times and line-up. Arrive with hair and make-up complete.

* All company members should now have the required Capezio blue leotard for ballet class. Remember to wear pink tights and wear your hair in a ponytail.

* One more hair lesson will be held Tuesday, January 17th from 7:30-8:30.

* Dancers performing hip-hop and/or lyrical routines should bring their tennis shoes and foot undeez to class to practice in. Please label all belongings!

* Diamond Co girls—we want to re-use the “What’s a girl gotta do” costumes from last year for recital. We know Lexi, Jordan, Rachel S., and Sydney need one. Does everyone else still have theirs and the gloves?

* DUPREE—Our first convention/competition is Dupree Dance and will be held February 4-5th. The event will be held at the Hyatt Regency Houston, 1200 Louisiana Street, Houston, TX 77002. 1-888-421-1442. You will need to meet us in the lobby of the hotel at 7:30 am Saturday morning. At that time you will check in with your assigned team leader (TBD) and receive your wristband. Parents—at this time you will need to notify us if you plan to stay and watch classes or if you plan to drop off and pick up later. Parents are welcome to stay and watch the classes at no charge. All students need to bring a sack lunch. Classes will begin at 8:00 am and finish at 2:00 pm. At the end of classes parents need to pick up their children from the dance ballrooms. Dancers will have 1 hour to get ready for the competition. There will be an assigned dressing room that the girls can use to dress or you can choose to rent a hotel room. The dancers should be ready and check in with their leaders at 2:45 pm in the dressing room. Then the parents are free to go get a good seat. The doors to the competition will open at 2:45 pm (in case you want someone to wait in line for you). After your dancer’s last performance please pick them up in the dressing room. At that time the team leader will be free of their duties. You are free to leave or wait for the awards. The awards ceremony will be held at the end of the competition. We will know the length and show order of the competition closer to the event.

On Sunday, you will need to again check in with your team leader at 7:45 am in the lobby and bring a sack lunch. At the finish of classes on Sunday the faculty will perform a short show and hold a scholarship ceremony. The dancers will be sitting with their leaders in the ballroom where you can meet them and pick them up. The faculty show and scholarship ceremony will start at 2 pm and end around 3 pm.

If you have been training with Jaci Smith for 5 or 10 years consecutively we would like to honor you for your dedication. Please notify the office if you feel this applies to you!
Costumes & tights will go home sometime before Spring Break.
Line-ups are posted. Dancers will be divided into 2 days of shows. One show will be held Friday, May 4th. The other shows will be held Saturday, May 5th. Some company members will be required to attend both days.
We will hold dress rehearsals at HBU on April 16th & 18th. Your show assignment will determine which rehearsal you attend.
Pictures will be taken at the studio April 2nd-6th. There will be no classes these days.

Adult Dance Aerobics

Join us on Friday mornings from 8:30-9:30 am for some great exercise to fun music! No registration necessary. Just show up. $15/class.

MDC Company

Our company teams have been working hard all year preparing for our upcoming competition season. Our first competition, Dupree, will be held Saturday, February 4th at the Hyatt Regency Houston Hotel. Admission is free! Specific times will be available in the office soon. This is a great opportunity for you to see what company is all about.

Notify the office between now and Spring Break if you are planning on auditioning for our 2012-2013 Company Teams. Auditions will be held in May, but you must first sign up!

This is the last month that we will register new students. This is also the last month to sign up to be in the recital.

Recital Info

All costumes have been ordered. Costume balances are due Jan 31st.
Pictures will be held April 2nd-6th.
Dress Rehearsals will be held April 16th & 18th at HBU.
Our recitals will be held May 4th-5th.

Don’t Forget

To receive a discount, tuition is due before the first of the month and you must have a zero balance (except for costumes).
If the studio is closed you may slip your money through our mail slot by the front door. Please put your child’s name on it!
